Football often features extraordinary passes, brilliant dribbles and spectacular goals. But beyond these, there are moments that capture fans' attention in unique ways. Recently, Iranian defender Nader Mohammadi created a stir on social media with an incredible move during a Russian second division match. His unusual throw-in, executed with a somersault, led to a memorable goal. In football terminology, this technique is called a 'somersault throw'.

Mohammadi was playing for Spartak Kostroma against SKA Khabarovsk. During the match, his team earned a throw-in near the opponent's box. Instead of the conventional standing or short run-up throw, Mohammadi took a different approach. Running up with the ball, he performed a full somersault at the touchline, using the momentum to hurl the ball powerfully into the opponent's penalty area. The unexpected and powerful throw reached the goalmouth, where teammate Amur Kalmykov headed it into the net. Mohammadi's team eventually won the match 3-1.

After the video of Mohammadi's incredible throw-in went viral on social media, football fans and netizens alike have been full of praise for the Iranian defender's extraordinary fitness and acrobatic skill.

Before gaining recognition as a professional footballer, Mohammadi had trained in gymnastics for nearly a decade. He had previously spoken about this technique, saying, "My background in gymnastics helped me create the somersault throw." The somersault generates additional speed at the moment of release, allowing the throw-in to cover an unusually long distance.
