Mia Golam Parwar, Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate and secretary general of the party, has been defeated in the Khulna-5 (Phultala-Dumuria-Gilatala Cantonment) constituency. Contesting with the scale symbol, he received 1,44,956 votes. On the other hand, BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asgar (Lobi), contesting with the sheaf of paddy symbol, received 1,47,658 votes and emerged victorious. The margin of victory between the two candidates stood at 2,702 votes. The constituency has a total of 4,02,798 voters and 150 polling centres. The Khulna-5 constituency comprises Phultala and Dumuria upazilas and Gilatala Cantonment area.

খুলনা-৫ (ফুলতলা-ডুমুরিয়া-গিলাতলা ক্যান্টনমেন্ট) আসনে বাংলাদেশ জামায়াতে ইসলামী মনোনীত প্রার্থী ও দলটির সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল মিয়া গোলাম পরওয়ার পরাজিত হয়েছেন। দাঁড়িপাল্লা প্রতীক নিয়ে তিনি পেয়েছেন ১ লাখ ৪৪ হাজার ৯৫৬ ভোট। অন্যদিকে, ধানের শীষ প্রতীক নিয়ে বিএনপির প্রার্থী মোহাম্মদ আলি আসগার (লবি) পেয়েছেন ১ লাখ ৪৭ হাজার ৬৫৮ ভোট এবং বিজয়ী হয়েছেন। দুই প্রার্থীর মধ্যে ভোটের ব্যবধান দাঁড়িয়েছে ২ হাজার ৭০২। এই আসনে মোট ভোটার সংখ্যা ৪ লাখ ২ হাজার ৭৯৮ জন। মোট কেন্দ্র রয়েছে ১৫০টি। ফুলতলা ও ডুমুরিয়া উপজেলা এবং গিলাতলা ক্যান্টনমেন্ট এলাকা নিয়ে গঠিত খুলনা-৫ আসন।
