Gold price drops by Tk 2,216 per bhori within two days
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has once again reduced gold prices, cutting the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams) just two days after raising it.
According to a BAJUS notification issued on Monday (July 13), the new prices came into effect from 10:00am. Following the latest adjustment, the price of 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 2,21,966 per bhori, including VAT.
BAJUS said the decision was taken after reviewing overall market conditions, particularly the decline in the price of pure gold (acid gold) in the local market.
Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold will be sold at Tk 2,11,993 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 1,82,075, while traditional-method gold has been priced at Tk 1,48,774 per bhori, all inclusive of VAT.
The association said the revised rates will remain effective at all jewellery outlets nationwide until further notice. However, making charges will continue to vary depending on the design and craftsmanship of ornaments.
BAJUS also clarified that VAT is already included in the listed prices and cannot be charged separately. Existing policies for jewellery exchange and buyback transactions will remain unchanged.
The latest reduction comes after BAJUS raised gold prices on July 10, when the price of 22-carat gold was increased by the same amount—Tk 2,216 per bhori—to Tk 224,182.
With the latest revision, gold prices have been adjusted 90 times so far this year—including 44 increases, 45 reductions and one VAT adjustment. In 2025, BAJUS revised gold prices 93 times, comprising 64 hikes and 29 cuts.
Alongside gold, BAJUS has also lowered silver prices. The price of 22-carat silver has been reduced by Tk 117 per bhori to Tk 4,607, while 21-carat silver is now priced at Tk 4,374, 18-carat silver at Tk 3,791, and traditional-method silver at Tk 2,858 per bhori.
According to BAJUS, silver prices have been revised 56 times this year, with 28 increases and 28 reductions. In 2025, silver prices were adjusted 13 times, including 10 increases and three decreases.
