Gold prices fall after three straight hikes

Gold prices have been reduced in markets across the country after three consecutive increases, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) cutting the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,158 per bhori.

Under the new pricing, a bhori of 22-carat gold will sell for Tk 234,621, effective from 10:00am on Friday (August 14).

BAJUS said the latest adjustment was made following a decline in the price of pure gold, locally known as tejabi gold, in the domestic market. The new rates will remain in effect at jewellery shops nationwide until further notice.

According to the revised price list, 21-carat gold will cost Tk 224,065 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will be priced at Tk 192,398. A bhori of traditional-method gold will cost Tk 157,172.

Value-added tax (VAT) is included in the selling price of jewellery, while making charges will be added separately depending on the design and workmanship.

BAJUS left silver prices unchanged. A bhori of 22-carat silver remains at Tk 5,074, while 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional-method silver are priced at Tk 4,841, Tk 4,199 and Tk 3,149, respectively.
