Gold prices jump again by Tk2,216 per bhori

Gold prices in Bangladesh have risen again, just three days after the previous revision, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) increasing the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 per bhori.

According to a BAJUS notification issued on Friday (July 31), Under the new rate, a bhori of 22-carat gold will now cost Tk223,074, including VAT. The revised prices came into effect from 10:00am.

The association said the adjustment was made in response to the increase in the price of pure (acid-test) gold in the local market.

Under the new pricing structure, 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 213,043 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will be sold at Tk 182,950 per bhori. The price of gold produced under the traditional method has been fixed at Tk 149,474 per bhori. The revised rates will remain effective at all jewellery outlets across the country until further notice.

BAJUS also clarified that VAT is included in the listed gold prices. However, making charges will vary depending on the design of the jewellery and will be added separately.

However, existing BAJUS rules regarding the sale, exchange and replacement of gold ornaments will remain unchanged.

The latest revision comes only three days after BAJUS reduced gold prices on July 28 by the same amount—Tk 2,216 per bhori—bringing the price of 22-carat gold down to Tk 220,857. With Friday's increase, the association has effectively reversed that cut.

Meanwhile, silver prices remain unchanged. A bhori of 22-carat silver continues to be sold at Tk4,607, including VAT.
