Government reconstitutes Bangladesh Film Certification Board with 15-member panel

The government has reconstituted the Bangladesh Film Certification Board, appointing a new 15-member panel to oversee the country's film certification process.

The reconstituted board was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on July 29, in accordance with the Bangladesh Film Certification Act.

Under the new structure, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will serve as the board's chairperson, while the Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board will act as the member secretary.

The new panel includes several prominent figures from Bangladesh's film and cultural sectors. Among them are film researcher and former Bangladesh Film Reporters Association president Abdur Rahman, actress Kazi Nowshaba, lyricist Prince Mahmud, singer Dithi Anwar, Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association president Awlad Hossain, and Bangladesh Film Directors Association president Shahin Sumon.

The board also includes the Additional Secretary (Film) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, representatives from the Law and Justice Division, the Chief Adviser's Press Wing, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, along with the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).

The newly constituted board will be responsible for reviewing and certifying films for public exhibition, while carrying out its regulatory functions in line with the country's film certification laws and policies.
