Government will take tough stance if internet prices are not reduced: Faiz Ahmed
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology) Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, has expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that mobile operators have not reduced internet prices despite providing various facilities.
He warned that the government will take a tough stance if the operators do not reduce prices.
He said this at a press conference organized at the BTRC building in Agargaon on Thursday (May 15) to mark World Telecommunication and Information Technology Day.
Faiz Ahmed said that mobile operators have been given various facilities. Despite that, internet prices have not been reduced. If they still do not reduce prices, the government will be forced to take a tough decision regarding the quality of service, withdrawal of outstanding dues and other facilities.
He said that efforts are being made to bring in domestic and foreign investment to sustain Teletalk. After Starlink, several other satellite-based internet service providers have shown interest in investing in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, regarding Grameenphone's nearly 40-minute network outage across the country on Wednesday (May 14), BTRC Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad ul Bari said that a letter has been sent to the company seeking an explanation for the incident.
