Govt announces rewards for recovery of weapons looted during July-August unrest
The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced cash rewards for the recovery of weapons looted during the mass uprising in July and August. The announcement was made on Monday by Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, at a press briefing held at the Secretariat.
The rewards have been set as follows: pistols will earn 50,000 Taka, China rifles Tk 100,000, SMGs Tk 150,000, LNGs Tk 500,000, and Tk 500 per recovered bullet. Authorities have assured that the identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
The Home Affairs Adviser also stated that rewards will be offered for credible information regarding corruption in police recruitment, emphasizing that all necessary measures have been taken to curb such practices.
In addition, a show-cause notice has been issued to the Gazipur Police Commissioner. Authorities expect a decline in robbery and extortion incidents ahead of the upcoming elections. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury expressed hope that all political parties will participate in the elections and that the majority of the looted weapons will be recovered.
