Govt working to boost internet speed, reduce costs: Faiz Ahmad
The government is actively working to enhance internet speed and lower internet costs across the country, announced Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
Speaking at a summit held in Agargaon on Wednesday, Faiz Ahmad highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at improving digital infrastructure. He also noted that the government is drafting legislation to protect citizens’ personal data, with plans to introduce necessary safeguards against misuse in the near future.
In addition, efforts are underway to implement a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy and a data governance act. The government is also modernizing telecommunications and ICT laws to keep pace with technological advancements. Work on enhancing the payment ecosystem is in progress as well.
Faiz Ahmad further revealed plans to establish a national API hub and improve cloud computing capabilities. He criticized current processes where citizens must apply online but still collect printed documents physically, emphasizing that such procedures do not reflect true digitalization.
The government is also aiming to activate city corporation front desks to provide better citizen services. He expressed hope that these initiatives will be carried forward by the next administration.
