Police recovered the bodies of a grandmother and her two grandsons from a rented house in Khulna city, authorities said on Saturday evening.
The deceased were identified as Beby, 65, Shamim, 12, and Mustakim, 4. Their bodies were found around 6pm at a residence near Suzuki Goli in the Sonadanga area.
Sonadanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident and said the motive behind the killings had not yet been determined.
According to police and local sources, the children's mother, Meri, 35, was living in the rented house with her mother and two sons. Shamim and Mustakim were children from her first marriage to Masum. About four years ago, she married Rafiqul Islam, her second husband.
Police said Meri had been living with her two children and her mother in a house owned by SM Shariful Islam in the Sonadanga area. Following the discovery of the bodies, her second husband, Rafiqul Islam, could not be located and is currently being sought by investigators.
Local resident Amzad said the family had been living in the area for some time and that Beby and the two children were last seen in the neighborhood on Eid night.
Police have questioned Meri as part of the investigation.
OC Rafiqul Islam said efforts are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. A Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been collecting evidence and examining the scene to identify those responsible.
The bodies were sent for further legal procedures as the investigation continues.
