Greaves creates historic Test record with 5 wicket-maidens in a row

West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves etched his name into Test cricket history by becoming the first bowler ever to take five wickets in five consecutive maiden overs during the opening Test against Pakistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

While wicket maidens are not uncommon in Test cricket, no bowler had previously claimed a wicket in five successive overs without conceding a single run. Greaves achieved the unprecedented feat with a remarkable spell on the third day of the match.

Replying to West Indies' first-innings total of 311, Pakistan resumed day three in a strong position on 199 for 3. Former captain Shan Masood continued his fine form, scoring 109 off 184 balls, before Greaves triggered a dramatic collapse.

After a quiet start in which he went wicketless in his first six overs, Greaves transformed the game. He first bowled Masood before dismissing Aamir Jamal, debutant Ali Usman, Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Abbas in the next four overs. Each of those five overs was a maiden, with a wicket falling in every one.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Greaves is the first bowler in recorded Test history to produce five consecutive wicket maidens. The previous record belonged to England's Stuart Broad, who bowled four successive wicket maidens against South Africa in 2016.

Greaves finished with outstanding figures of 5 for 27 from 11 overs, including six maidens, claiming the first five-wicket haul of his Test career. His inspired spell bundled Pakistan out for 282, giving West Indies a valuable 29-run first-innings lead.

Despite that advantage, the hosts have yet to seize complete control of the match. By stumps on the third day, West Indies had reached 126 for 7 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 155 runs with only three wickets remaining, setting up an intriguing contest heading into the fourth day.
