BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged party leaders and supporters to guard polling centres to prevent any disruption and ensure peaceful participation of voters from all communities.

“Stand guard at the polling centres so that no one can create trouble. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians must all be able to cast their votes freely,” he said while addressing an election road meeting at Kajipara in Mohammadpur Union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila around 11:00am on Sunday (February 1).

Mirza Fakhrul expressed confidence that the upcoming election could not be derailed. “This time the people have awakened. They will vote, and no one will be able to stop it, Inshallah,” he said.

Highlighting BNP’s election pledges, he said the party delivers what it promises. If elected, BNP would waive bank loans of farmers up to Tk10,000, introduce agricultural cards for farmers and mothers to ensure access to various benefits, and arrange repayment of NGO loans taken by women, as pledged by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. “Only a debt-free society can truly progress,” he added.

During the event, Sanchita, sister of July uprising martyr Al Mamun, presented Mirza Fakhrul with an earthen bank and chicken eggs. He became visibly emotional while recalling the sacrifices of the July martyrs.

Former district BNP vice-president Al Mamun, union BNP ward leader Belal Hossain, and local party leaders and activists were also present at the road meeting.
