Three people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting at a shopping center in the US state of Idaho, while at least two others were injured, local authorities said.

The shooting took place around 2:30pm (local time) in a commercial area near an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls on Saturday (August 1).

Police quickly secured the scene, temporarily closing nearby roads and a bridge as officers searched the area and assessed potential threats.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the situation had been brought under control and that the gunman no longer posed a threat to the public.

City spokesperson Josh Palmer later confirmed that three people died, including the suspected shooter, while at least two others sustained injuries and were receiving medical treatment.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or the suspected gunman.

Police said investigators are working to determine the motive behind the attack and have not disclosed whether the victims were targeted or selected at random.

Twin Falls, a city of roughly 47,000 residents in Idaho's Magic Valley region, remained under heightened security following the incident as investigators processed the crime scene.

The shooting remains under investigation.
