Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya's son Azam al-Hayya has died from injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, reports Anadolu Ajansi.

He was critically wounded on Wednesday evening in an Israeli strike in the Al-Daraj area in eastern Gaza City. He later succumbed to his injuries on Thursday (May 7)while undergoing treatment.

Hospital sources said Azam was taken to Al-Shifa Hospital following the strike, where he was declared dead.

Footage circulating online showed mourners carrying his body from the hospital before he was laid to rest.

In a statement, Hamas said the killing of Azam was part of what it described as Israel’s policy of targeting families of political leaders and civilians in the Gaza Strip. The group added that such attacks would not alter its political stance or weaken its leadership.

According to Hamas and local sources, Azam is the fourth son of Khalil al-Hayya reported killed in Israeli strikes since the ongoing escalation in Gaza.

The Israeli military has not issued an immediate comment on the incident.
