Hamza leaving Leicester, going to Sheffield

Sheffield United is advancing on the path of permanently bringing Bangladeshi-origin English midfielder Hamza Choudhury into the team. England’s media The Star has informed that the contract of returning to Sheffield from Leicester City is almost final.

The club started looking for an alternative after Sheffield’s right-back Femi Seriki got injured, and following that clue they took the initiative of bringing Hamza back. Hamza may take the medical test today and if everything remains okay the contract may be completed even before the match against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

Hamza had also played for Sheffield United earlier. He had played 19 matches at Bramall Lane on loan in the second half of the 2024-25 season, of which he was in the starting eleven in 16. He had also played an important role on the path of the team reaching the play-off final—the club is planning to keep him permanently in the team this time.

Although Hamza has a contract with Leicester the club wants to get free from his salary to reduce the financial pressure after consecutive two seasons of relegation. Taking that opportunity Sheffield has advanced on the path of getting Hamza almost without transfer fee.

Hamza’s relation with Sheffield’s coach Chris Wilder is also old—this midfielder has played under him in both Watford and Sheffield. Praising Hamza’s winning mentality Wilder had earlier said that there is experience of becoming successful and the ability of bringing the team back into the fight in him.

Sheffield is also seeing Hamza as part of the future plan. The contracts of Joe Rothwell and Jairo Riedewald will end next summer, besides Calvin Phillips is also currently playing on loan. As a result the Blades want to keep Hamza in the team as a long-term alternative in the midfield.
