Hamza’s Leicester City up for sale in £200m ownership shake-up

Leicester City, the English club featuring Bangladesh international Hamza Chowdhury, is reportedly on course for another change of ownership, with current owners King Power preparing to sell the club for around £200 million (more than Tk 3,300 crore), according to the BBC.

The potential sale comes less than a decade after Leicester enjoyed the greatest period in their history. Thai businessman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha took control of the club in 2010, ushering in an extraordinary rise that culminated in their stunning 2015–16 Premier League title triumph under Claudio Ranieri.

Leicester finished ahead of established giants including Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea to claim their first top-flight title. They went on to win the FA Cup for the first time in 2021, further cementing their remarkable transformation.

The club, however, has suffered a sharp decline in recent years, both on and off the pitch. Leicester finished 23rd in the 24-team Championship last season, resulting in relegation to League One. They were also deducted six points during the campaign over financial breaches.

The club’s fortunes became increasingly uncertain following Vichai’s death in a helicopter crash in 2018. His son, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, subsequently took over the ownership, but Leicester have struggled to maintain the stability and success of the Vichai era.

King Power is now preparing to hand the club over to new investors, although Leicester City have yet to make any official announcement regarding a potential sale.
