After 55 long months, football returned to the national stadium. The gallery was filled with cheers and chants from the fans. In the 6th minute, Hamza Choudhury’s goal sparked waves of celebration. Bangladesh went into halftime with a lead against Bhutan. Just after the break, Sohel Rana scored another goal to double the lead. With goals from Hamza and Sohel, Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 2-0 in this friendly match. Bangladesh will face Singapore at the same venue on June 10.

Hamza made his debut for BangladeshDhaka last March against India in the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers. However, this was the first time he played on home soil. The England-born defensive midfielder didn’t take long to impress, scoring in just the 6th minute of the game.

From the start, Bangladesh played attacking football. In the 3rd minute, Kazem Shah Kirmani sent a cross, but Jamal Bhuiyan couldn’t connect properly. The next minute, Hamza’s shot from Kazem’s cut-back was blocked by the Bhutan defense. In the 6th minute, the gallery erupted in joy when Hamza scored with a header from Jamal Bhuiyan’s corner.

After the goal, Bangladesh lost a bit of rhythm. In the 21st minute, Tariq lost the ball near his own half. Bhutan’s Kinga Wangchuk moved forward with the ball, but Topu Barman quickly managed to handle the situation and averted danger.

In the 30th minute, Rakib made a quick run down the left and passed to Kirmani, who then passed it to Fahamidul. His shot was punched away by the Bhutanese goalkeeper. Jamal’s follow-up shot went well off target. Six minutes later, Rakib’s flick from Taj’s cross, after a through pass from Hamza, went to Jamal. The captain’s shot from outside the box was blocked by defender AC Gayeltshen.

In the second half, in the 49th minute, Rakib’s cross from the right was cleared by a Bhutan defender. The ball came back and Sohel Rana fired a stunning left-footed diagonal shot from about 30 yards out to score.

Bangladesh had more chances but couldn’t score again. In the 56th minute, Fahamidul failed to finish from close range. Bhutan also missed several chances. In the end, Bangladesh secured a 2-0 victory.

There was a big crowd at the national stadium for the match against Bhutan. A new-look Bangladesh team, featuring expatriate players, played this game. This win will serve as strong motivation for Hamza Choudhury and his teammates ahead of the upcoming match against Singapore.
