Hasan Mahmud takes 6 wickets as West Indies bowled out for 356
West Indies were bowled out for 356 in their first innings of the Sylhet Test, with Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud leading the attack with an impressive six-wicket haul.
Hasan claimed six wickets for 90 runs, taking his second six-wicket haul in a Test innings. Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two wickets each.
Bangladesh had a chance to wrap up the West Indies innings during the first session on the second day on Friday, but the hosts had to work hard to claim the final two wickets. A determined partnership between Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales added 33 runs off 67 balls for the final wicket before Miraz broke the stand by dismissing Seales.
Hasan claimed his sixth wicket in the first over after lunch, bowling Shamar Joseph with a delivery that moved in sharply. Joseph departed for 16 off 18 balls.
Warrican and Seales then mounted resistance at the other end. Seales was trapped lbw by Miraz for 15 off 38 balls. He reviewed the decision but failed to overturn it. Warrican remained unbeaten on 27 off 48 balls, hitting four boundaries.
Earlier on the opening day, Bangladesh's pacers made early inroads into the West Indies top order with the new ball. However, the visitors recovered through a partnership between Aamir Jangoo and Justin Greaves. Jangoo scored 133, while Greaves made 51. Kevin Wickham contributed 61 and Joshua Bishop added 23.
Alongside Hasan's six wickets for 90 runs, Taskin took two for 83 and Miraz claimed two wickets. Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan went wicketless.
During the innings, Hasan also became the first Bangladesh fast bowler to take a wicket through a stumping in Test cricket. He further joined an exclusive record by becoming only the second bowler after Nathan Lyon to claim his maiden five-wicket haul in five different countries.
