Havertz rescues Germany with crucial equalizer
Germany fought back early in the second half to restore parity against Paraguay in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash, with Kai Havertz scoring in the 54th minute to make it 1-1.
The four-time world champions had gone into the break trailing after Julio Enciso's clinical strike in the 42nd minute gave Paraguay a deserved first-half lead.
Germany emerged with greater urgency after halftime, increasing the tempo and pressing higher up the pitch. Their persistence paid off when Havertz found the net in the 54th minute, finishing off a well-worked attacking move to bring his side back into the contest.
The equaliser has shifted momentum in Germany's favour as Julian Nagelsmann's side look to complete the turnaround and avoid a shock exit. Paraguay, however, remain dangerous on the counterattack and continue searching for another breakthrough.
With the score locked at 1-1, the Round of 32 encounter remains finely poised, and a single goal could prove decisive in determining who advances to the next stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
