Head's wife alleges online attacks by Indian fans
The IPL on-field battles have also spread to social media. This time, Australian cricketer Travis Head's wife Jessica Davis has made serious allegations of online attacks against Indian fans and supporters.
Travis Head's refusal to shake hands with Virat Kohli during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad sparked widespread discussion and criticism on social media on May 22. Since then, Jessica has alleged that offensive comments and attacks have started targeting Head and his wife.
In an interview with the Australian media outlet 'The Advertiser', she said, "I woke up to a torrent of attacks on me on social media. Not only us, but my friends and family members are also being attacked."
This is not the first time Jessica has faced such a situation. Even after Australia's victory over India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, she was attacked on social media. Recalling that memory, she said that this incident is also a repeat of that experience.
Jessica said that there can be emotions in sports, but attacks targeting the families of cricketers are not acceptable. She said that cricketers are also human beings, they also have families. There is a need to be more aware of mental health and mutual behavior in sports.
The conversation between Kohli and Head on the field in the last match was also discussed. After the match, there were claims on social media that Kohli did not shake hands even though Head came forward to shake hands. Since then, tension has spread among the fans over the issue.
Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 55 runs in Friday's match, but could not make it to the top two in the playoffs. Bangalore will face Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier tomorrow. And Hyderabad will play Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator the next day.
