Heavy rainstorms triggered from widespread flooding and mudslides across California have left three dead as of Christmas night, officials said.

Some parts of Los Angeles County received up to 11 inches (27 cm) of rainfall, shutting down major roads and leaving around 100,000 residents without power as of Thursday evening, reports BBC.

A 64-year-old San Diego man was killed by a fallen tree Wednesday morning. Over the weekend, a 74-year-old died in floodwaters in Redding, while a woman in her 70s was swept into the ocean at MacKerricher State Park in Mendocino County on Monday.

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Los Angeles and other southern counties.

Evacuation warnings remain in effect in San Bernardino County, and flash flood alerts have been issued for the San Francisco Bay area. Winds topped 100 mph (161 km/h) near San Jose.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass urged residents to exercise caution during holiday travel.
