Historical win over Australia: Tk 2 crore bonus announced for Tigers
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque has announced a Tk 2 crore bonus for the national cricket team after they secured a historic ODI series win over Australia, ending a wait of more than two decades.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports confirmed the matter on Saturday, June 13 .
Led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh defeated Australia by five wickets in the rain-affected second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with one match to spare .
This series win holds special significance in Bangladesh's cricket history. Prior to this, Bangladesh's only ODI win over Australia came in Cardiff in 2005. After 21 years, the Tigers have not only tasted victory again but have gone on to claim the series .
Chasing a target of 192 runs in the rain-hit second ODI, Bangladesh reached the target in 35 overs for the loss of five wickets. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and his teammates played crucial roles in the team's success with both bat and ball .
The Tk 2 crore bonus is seen as a major motivation for the cricketers in recognition of this outstanding achievement. The Ministry of Sports hopes this success will further boost Bangladesh's confidence in international cricket .
Although the third and final match of the series is now a formality, Bangladesh will take the field with the aim of a whitewash, while Australia will seek a win to salvage pride .
