HMD launches new feature phone for calls and SMS only
HMD has introduced a new feature phone for users who do not need the extra features of smartphones, social media or internet access—only a simple device for calling and texting. The 'HMD 106 2G' model comes with dual-SIM support, a 1,000mAh battery and a few basic features necessary for everyday communication.
The phone features a 1.8-inch LCD display, powered by a Unisoc 6533G chipset, with 4MB RAM and 8MB internal storage. It runs on the lightweight S30+ operating system. The device supports only 2G network technology.
The HMD 106 2G is equipped with a 1,000mAh battery. Though its capacity is lower than that of smartphones, power consumption is also relatively low due to the small screen and limited hardware, allowing for longer use on a single charge.
For connectivity, it features Bluetooth 4.2, a micro-USB port for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone also has an IP52 rating for protection against dust and light water splashes. It will be available in three different colours.
This phone may be useful for those looking to reduce smartphone usage, take a digital break, use a backup device or have an emergency communication tool. It also serves as a viable option for those who simply want a basic device for calls and texts.
However, before purchasing, it is important to ensure that 2G network service is available in the user's area. Mobile operators around the world are gradually phasing out or limiting 2G networks. If 2G service is unavailable in a particular area, a 4G-enabled feature phone would be a more suitable choice.
