Hong Kong Airport to shut for 36hrs due to Typhoon Ragasa
Hong Kong International Airport will close all passenger flights for 36 hours starting from 8 pm on September 23 until 8 am. on September 25, Qantas Airways announced Monday. The closure comes as Typhoon Ragasa, one of the strongest storms in years, approaches the city.
Although Airport Authority Hong Kong has not officially confirmed the shutdown, officials say they are closely monitoring the storm and preparing for its impact.
The Hong Kong Observatory plans to issue the lowest typhoon warning signal at noon Monday and raise it to the second-highest level between 8 pm. and 10 pm Monday night. Storm-force winds and hurricane-strength gusts are expected to hit the city on Wednesday.
Residents have begun stocking up on supplies amid rising prices and shortages at local markets. Cathay Pacific said it is monitoring the situation closely, with no flight cancellations announced yet.
Meanwhile, the Philippines suspended work and classes in Metro Manila and other regions as Typhoon Ragasa moves toward northern Luzon, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
