Housewife stabbed to death while preventing theft in Narayanganj
A housewife was fatally stabbed to death after trying to stop a robbery at Rupganj in Narayanganj.
The incident took place around 3:30pm in the Kerabo area of Rupganj’s Kanchan municipality on Friday (January 16).
The deceased, Amena Begum, was the wife of Dewan Kamruzzaman Babul.
The suspect, identified as Mehedi, son of Rezaul from Mastapur, was beaten to death by locals while attempting to flee.
According to relatives and locals, Mehedi and several others had installed tiles at Babul’s house four days earlier. Believing the house to be empty, Mehedi attempted a burglary on Friday afternoon. Amena Begum confronted him, prompting Mehedi to stab her repeatedly with a knife. She was rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
While fleeing the scene, Mehedi was caught by nearby residents. News of Amena Begum’s death enraged the crowd, who then beat him to death on the spot.
Assistant Police Superintendent Mehedi Islam said police quickly arrived at the scene, restored order, and sent both bodies to Narayanganj General Hospital after preliminary investigations.
Legal action is underway.
