Houthis announce fresh strikes on Israel, Red Sea in solidarity with Iran
Yemen's Houthi rebels have announced renewed attacks on Israel and the Red Sea in solidarity with Iran following US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.
Israel and the United States have launched sudden attacks on Iran. The joint operation, codenamed 'Operation Roaring Lion', reportedly targeted Iran's top leadership. Plumes of smoke from massive explosions were seen over Tehran's skies early on Saturday morning.
The Israeli Defence Forces said in a statement that the attacks were carried out to eliminate threats posed by Iran to Israel's existence through its proxy forces. Israeli media outlet Channel 12 claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and top military commanders were targeted in the strikes, with preliminary assessments indicating significant success. There are also concerns of dramatic developments regarding Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, although no official information has been received on this matter.
In protest against the attacks on Iran and in support of Tehran, Yemen's Houthi rebels have announced they will resume drone and missile attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and on Israeli targets.
The Houthi rebels stated they had suspended Red Sea attacks under an agreement with the Trump administration, but are now ending that pause and will become active again from tonight.
