Humayun Kabir meets Saudi foreign minister, delivers PM’s letter

Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, has met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. Their meeting took place on the sidelines of the 23rd special session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Jeddah on Thursday.

During the meeting Humayun Kabir handed over a letter of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

A statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the representatives of the two countries expressed satisfaction at the positive progress of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia at the meeting. At the same time they reiterated the commitment to take the existing partnership to a higher level.

Humayun Kabir said several high-level visits have taken place between the two countries after the formation of the BNP-led government. These visits have created new opportunities to further increase cooperation in various fields. He also mentioned the possibility of more high-level visits between the two countries in the near future.

The Saudi foreign minister said Bangladesh is one of the priority countries. He emphasised further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries. Mentioning the growing interest of Saudi companies in Bangladesh he also expressed interest in expanding investment and business engagement.

The Saudi foreign minister also praised the expatriate workers of Bangladesh. Mentioning the contribution of expatriate Bangladeshis to the development of Saudi Arabia he praised their role.

During the meeting Humayun Kabir invited the Saudi foreign minister to visit Bangladesh at his convenient time.

Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Engineer Waleed Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and senior officials of the two countries were present at the meeting.
