Hundreds of tourists remain stranded at Lukla airport in Nepal’s Everest region as adverse weather suspends flights for the third consecutive day, reports The Hindu.

Continuous rain, fog, and low visibility have grounded all flights since Thursday, officials said Saturday (November 1).

Tourists returning from Everest Base Camp are unable to fly back to Kathmandu. Hotels in Lukla and nearby Namche Bazaar are fully occupied as stranded visitors wait.

Amrit Magar, in charge of Tara Airlines Lukla, said around 1,500 tourists with booked tickets are affected.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warned that heavy rain and snowfall are likely to continue in mountainous and hilly areas, including Koshi Province, over the next few days.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Solukhumbu, Surendra Thapa, said flights will remain suspended until weather conditions improve.
