Police have arrested Nazrul Islam, who allegedly killed his wife and hid her body in a deep freezer before fleeing, in Dhaka’s Kalabagan area.

The arrest was confirmed at a press briefing at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Wednesday, October 15, by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division Md Masud Alam.

He said the housewife’s body was recovered from a deep freezer inside their flat. The husband had been absconding since the incident but has now been detained by Kalabagan police.

According to police sources, the woman’s body was recovered from a flat in Kalabagan on Monday night, October 13. The deceased was identified as Taslima, a native of Bindan village under Purshila Police Station in Gazipur district. Her father’s name is Md Siraj Mia. Injury marks were found on her body.

Intelligence sources revealed that on Monday evening, Taslima’s two daughters filed a complaint with Kalabagan Police Station after becoming suspicious of their mother’s sudden disappearance and their father’s unusual behaviour. Acting on the complaint, police arrived at the scene around 8pm and recovered Taslima’s body from a deep freezer. However, by then, the husband had fled. He was later arrested by the police.
