'Hygiene for Bangladesh' campaign launched to prevent diseases
A nationwide campaign titled 'Hygiene for Bangladesh' has been launched to raise public awareness about disease prevention and hygiene practices, with the support of Dhaka City Corporation and Gulshan Society. The initiative is being led by Samanzar Saeed, winner of 'Miss World Bangladesh 2026'.
The programme was jointly inaugurated on Wednesday evening at Gulshan Lake Park in the capital by Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat and Samanzar Saeed.
Speaking at the event, the Health Minister said the government will soon launch a 'home-to-home health screening' programme across the country to ensure healthcare for every citizen. This will enable early detection of various diseases among the general public.
He further said there is no alternative to a clean environment for staying healthy. Following hygiene practices and raising public awareness are crucial for building a healthy, knowledge-based and prosperous nation.
Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat said instead of relying solely on hospitals and health centres, awareness about hygiene must be raised in every household. Strengthening disease prevention is possible through ensuring cleanliness. He praised Samanzar Saeed for the initiative.
Organisers said awareness about hygiene will be raised through educational and social awareness activities across the country, involving young volunteers. Samanzar Saeed will represent Bangladesh at the Miss World 2026 competition scheduled to be held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on September 5.
The event was attended by Miss World Bangladesh National Director Azra Mahmud, Manushher Jonno Foundation Executive Director Shaheen Anam, Gulshan Society General Secretary Mujibur Rahman Mridha and other guests from various walks of life.
At the end of the programme, the nationwide volunteer registration drive was symbolically launched by releasing pigeons and eco-friendly biodegradable balloons.
