I will not let Israel to occupy West Bank: Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that he will not allow Israel to occupy the West Bank, calling it an unacceptable move, reports BBC.
Trump made the statement ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump also expressed optimism about a potential peace deal regarding Gaza, stating that an agreement might be close.
Despite growing international pressure on Israel to halt its occupation of the West Bank, Netanyahu's far-right coalition sees this occupation as a long-term solution.
The U.S. president emphasised that he had discussed the issue with Netanyahu and other Middle Eastern leaders, adding that a resolution for Gaza was within reach.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for global support for the French peace plan, even though the U.S. has not recognised Palestine as a state.
International opposition to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank continues to grow, with European and Arab countries warning Israel of severe consequences should it proceed with such actions.
