ICC penalises Bangladesh ahead of series decider
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Bangladesh players for maintaining a slow over rate in the second ODI against New Zealand, just ahead of the series-deciding third match.
According to an ICC statement issued on Wednesday (April 22), players were fined 10 per cent of their match fees after Bangladesh were found two overs short of the required rate in the second ODI.
The sanction was imposed by ICC Elite Panel match referee Andy Pycroft following a report from the on-field umpires.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. As Bangladesh fell short by two overs, a total fine of 10 per cent was applied.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz accepted the offence and the proposed sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
Bangladesh and New Zealand are set to face off in the third and final ODI on Thursday at Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium.
