Illegal arms factory busted in Munshiganj
Joint forces in a drive have uncovered a locally operated arms manufacturing factory and seized a significant stock of weapons and ammunition in the Purba Shilmandi area of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila.
A large amount of weapons-making equipment was recovered from the spot in the operation conducted late on Monday night.
Sources said that the patrol team of the Munshiganj Army Camp under the 99th Composite Brigade, the headquarters of the army, conducted the operation based on intelligence information.
According to army camp sources, the army and police jointly conducted the operation after receiving information about the suspicious movement of some unknown persons in the godown of Suman Lal in the Purba Shilmandi area. During the operation, 3 lead cartridges, 5 iron butts, 7 iron barrels, 7 recoil springs, a welding machine, a drill machine, 6 iron bolts and a lathe machine, along with various weapons-making equipment, were recovered from the godown.
The recovered equipment has been handed over to the Munshiganj Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings, the police said.
Intelligence sources also revealed that weapons were being manufactured at the site in preparation for the upcoming elections and sabotage activities centered on November 13. It is believed that the weapons supply that recently took place in Mollakandi Union of Sadar Upazila was also made from that site.
