Impress Telefilm brings double Eid treat with ‘Sarar Songsar’ on OTT and ‘Masud Rana’ in cinemas
Legendary Bangladeshi writer Kazi Anwar Hossain’s iconic creations are making a major comeback this Eid season through two different visual formats, as audiences embrace both the emotional thriller 'Sarar Songsar' on OTT and the long-awaited spy action film 'Masud Rana' on the big screen.
While the two productions differ sharply in tone and storytelling, both are rooted in the celebrated literary universe created by Kazi Anwar Hossain and backed by leading production house Impress Telefilm.
The web film 'Sarar Songsar' began streaming on OTT platform from May 26. Directed by Aka Reza Galib, the film is based on Kazi Anwar Hossain’s popular novel 'Artonad' and stars renowned dancer and actress Sadia Islam Mou in the lead role.
According to the filmmakers, 'Sarar Songsar' goes beyond conventional thriller storytelling, exploring the psychological struggles of a mother, family tensions and the devastating consequences of a single mistake.
The story revolves around Sara, played by Mou, who accidentally kills her daughter’s secret lover one night. In an attempt to protect her daughter’s honour, she tries to conceal the crime, but the situation spirals further out of control as police begin investigating the disappearance. The film blends family drama, guilt, suspense and mystery into a tense psychological narrative.
The cast also includes Gazi Rakayet, Rashed Mamun Apu, Nafis Ahmed, Nafisa Maliat Promi and Ehtesham Ahmed Tinku.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated action thriller Masud Rana hit cinemas nationwide on Thursday as part of Eid-ul-Azha releases.
The film brings to life one of Bangla literature’s most iconic spy characters, originally created in the 1960s by Kazi Anwar Hossain and inspired by the global appeal of James Bond-style espionage fiction. Over time, however, the 'Masud Rana' series established its own distinct identity in Bangla popular literature, with more than 400 books captivating generations of readers through action, mystery and spy adventures.
Actor Rasel Rana appears in the titular role, while actress Puja Cherry plays Sohana opposite him.
Produced by Impress Telefilm alongside Jaaz Multimedia, the film has generated significant buzz following the release of its teaser and trailer. Social media discussions have particularly centred around newcomer Rasel Rana, with many viewers praising his screen presence and describing him as a “complete package hero” for Bangladeshi cinema.
The strong audience response surrounding the fresh pairing, combined with the enduring popularity of the 'Masud Rana' franchise, has made the film one of the most talked-about entertainment releases of this Eid season.
