Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been granted bail in a case concerning attacks on military installations. In May 2023, his supporters were accused of attacking the Army headquarters and several other military sites.

A three-member bench of the Pakistan Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, granted bail to Imran Khan on Thursday (August 21). The Lahore High Court had previously denied bail, leading his lawyers to appeal to the Supreme Court. The court ordered that, if there are no other pending cases or arrest warrants, Imran Khan should be released from prison immediately.

However, he will not be released immediately due to pending corruption cases. The 72-year-old leader has faced one case after another since being removed from power in a no-confidence vote in 2022. Several leaders of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have also been implicated in similar cases.

In May 2023, when Imran Khan was briefly arrested, his supporters protested. They allegedly attacked and vandalized several important military installations, including the Army headquarters in Rawalpindi, accusing the military of involvement.
