Imran Khan is alive, says PTI leader
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Khurram Zishan has dismissed rumours of former prime minister Imran Khan’s death, saying he is alive and still being held in Adiala Jail.
Speaking to India’s ANI on Saturday, November 29, he said Imran Khan has been kept in isolation as part of a pressure tactic to force him to leave Pakistan.
Zishan said the government is alarmed by Khan’s popularity and is preventing any photos or videos of him from being released.
Earlier this week, rumours circulated on social media, mainly from Afghan sources, claiming that Imran Khan had been killed in prison. The speculation grew after his family was denied permission to meet him for a month, despite a court order.
Zishan said it was “very unfortunate” that Imran Khan had been kept in complete isolation for nearly a month, with no access to family, lawyers or senior party leaders. He termed it a clear violation of human rights.
He said they were recently reassured that Imran Khan is alive and still in Adiala Jail.
Asked about the nature of the alleged deal being offered to Imran Khan, Zishan said the government wants him to leave the country and remain silent abroad in exchange for concessions.
However, he added that Khan would “never accept such an offer”, as it goes against his character and principles.
