India has claimed that some media outlets are spreading misleading information about a protest held outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. The statement was made by Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in response to media queries.

In a statement published on the ministry’s website on Sunday, December 21, it said that around 20 to 25 youths gathered outside the High Commission on Saturday, December 20, chanting slogans to protest the brutal killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh. The protesters also demanded the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.

Randhir Jaiswal said there was no attempt at any point to breach the High Commission’s security perimeter and no security situation arose. He added that police deployed at the scene dispersed the protesters within minutes, and videos and photographs of the incident are publicly available.

He said India remains committed to ensuring the security of all foreign missions and diplomatic premises on its territory in accordance with the Vienna Convention.

Jaiswal also said India is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh, maintaining regular contact with Bangladeshi authorities. He expressed deep concern over attacks on minorities and called for the swift prosecution of those responsible for the killing of Dipu Chandra Das.
