India announces squad for Asia Cup
The Asia Cup is set to begin in the United Arab Emirates on September 9, and participating nations have started announcing their squads. In a surprise move, India unveiled its team on Tuesday (August 19) via a press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed captain, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain. There was debate over Tilak Varma’s inclusion after Gill was selected, but he has made it into the squad. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will also feature in the tournament.
Despite being in strong form, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been left out due to team balance considerations. IPL’s top run-scorer Sai Sudharsan is also missing from the Asia Cup squad.
India’s Squad:
Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (Wicketkeeper), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (Wicketkeeper), Harshit Rana, and Rinku Singh.
