India beat Afghanistan for first Test win in 93 years
India registered a historic cricket victory, crushing Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs on Day 3 of their one-off Test match on Monday. The win marks India's largest innings victory in the 93-year history of their Test cricket.
The match belonged to 23-year-old debutant Manav Suthar. The left-arm orthodox spinner entered the record books as the 10th Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut, tearing through Afghanistan's first innings with sensational figures of 6/33.
After being bundled out for 152 in their first innings, Afghanistan fared even worse in the second essay. Relentless pressure from Washington Sundar (4/36) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/30), combined with poor shot selection from the touring batters, saw Afghanistan dismissed for just 112 runs in 35.5 overs.
Suthar finished with match figures of 7/62, cementing his status as the future flag-bearer of India's spin attack as veteran greats Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja move out of the Test frame.
