India closely monitoring Bangladesh: Jaishankar
India is keeping a close watch on Bangladesh, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said. According to him, New Delhi places special importance on Bangladesh in light of India's national interests and internal security.
During the monsoon session of the Lok Sabha, a Member of Parliament drew Jaishankar’s attention to a recent development in Dhaka, where an Islamist group allegedly released a map under the name "Saltanat-e-Bangla," showing parts of Indian territory as included within a so-called "Greater Bangladesh." The MP claimed that the group is operating with support from a Turkey-based NGO, the Turkish Youth Federation.
In response, Jaishankar stated, “We have communicated with the Government of Bangladesh regarding this matter. The Bangladeshi authorities informed us that the map in question was part of a historical exhibition held on the Dhaka University campus during the 2025 Bengali New Year celebrations. The map was a depiction from the medieval era, and the organizers clarified that there is no involvement of any foreign organization.”
He further added that the Bangladesh government has assured India that no group or organization by the name “Saltanat-e-Bangla” exists within the country.
Jaishankar concluded, “We are closely monitoring Bangladesh in matters of national interest and internal security, and all necessary measures are being taken accordingly.”
