India, England set for T20 World Cup Semi-Final showdown today
Defending champions India national cricket team will face former champions England national cricket team in the second semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Thursday, with both teams chasing a third title in the format.
The match will be played at Wankhede Stadium at 7:30 pm local time. The winner will advance to the final to face New Zealand national cricket team, who defeated South Africa national cricket team by nine wickets in the first semi-final.
India and England have shared a fierce semi-final rivalry in recent tournaments. England dominated India in the 2022 semi-final in Australia, chasing 169 without losing a wicket under captain Jos Buttler before going on to win the title. India responded in the 2024 edition, bowling England out for 101 after posting 172 and later winning the championship.
India head into the clash as favorites, having won seven of their eight matches in the tournament under captain Suryakumar Yadav. England, meanwhile, have taken a more turbulent path to the semi-finals but still managed to win seven matches.
Both sides have received key contributions from unexpected performers. India’s Sanju Samson impressed with an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls after replacing Rinku Singh, while England have relied on the return of all-rounder Sam Curran in crucial moments.
India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah remains their key weapon, while England will look to fast bowler Jofra Archer to make early breakthroughs.
With a place in the final on the line, the Mumbai clash promises a high-voltage contest between two modern T20 powerhouses.
