India envoy proposes joint Bangladesh-India Ayurveda research centre

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has proposed establishing a joint research centre on Ayurveda to deepen cooperation between Bangladesh and India in traditional medicine.

He made the proposal at an event marking the 11th Ayurveda Day at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan, Dhaka on Wednesday (September 23).

The event was held under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.”

Trivedi said traditional medical systems and ancient knowledge can play an important role in preventive healthcare and promoting wellbeing. A dedicated joint research centre, he said, could expand opportunities for academics and professionals from both countries to exchange knowledge and expertise.

He also said greater cooperation in Ayurveda could contribute to strengthening longstanding people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and India.

The event featured an academic workshop on Ayurveda and preventive healthcare, with participation from faculty members and students of Ayurvedic institutions in Bangladesh.

The programme also included a cultural segment featuring the unveiling of a wool tapestry by Bangladeshi artist Shahin Sobhana Surovi and a classical music performance by Ranjan Chandra Sarker.

The programme brought together academics, practitioners, students and cultural figures involved in Ayurveda and traditional medicine in Bangladesh.

Certificates were also distributed among participating students.
