India examining Bangladesh's request to bring back Sheikh Hasina: Jaiswal
India is examining the request to bring back Bangladesh's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina as part of ongoing judicial and internal legal processes, said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs.
He made the remarks at a regular press briefing in Delhi on Thursday, April 16, in response to a journalist's question.
"The request is being examined as part of ongoing judicial and internal legal processes. We will continue to engage constructively on the issue with all stakeholders," Jaiswal said. He added that India is closely monitoring all developments in Bangladesh.
Jaiswal noted that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has reiterated India's desire to engage constructively with the new government in Bangladesh and further strengthen bilateral ties.
According to the MEA spokesperson, both sides have agreed to explore proposals to deepen their partnership through relevant bilateral mechanisms, with follow-up meetings expected to take place soon.
