Hosts India will take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 today (March 8), with the title-deciding encounter set to begin at 7:30pm (Bangladesh time).

The summit clash will be staged at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where more than 100,000 spectators are expected to witness the tournament’s finale.

India enter the final in formidable form after a dominant run throughout the tournament. They swept through the group stage before beating England in a tense semifinal to reach their record fourth T20 World Cup final.

Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, the hosts are aiming to defend their crown and potentially become the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles.

The Indian batting unit has been spearheaded by aggressive top-order players including Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and explosive wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who has scored more than 260 runs in the tournament so far.

With the ball, India rely heavily on pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, whose deadly yorkers and variations have made him one of the most effective death-over bowlers in T20 cricket.

New Zealand, captained by Mitchell Santner, are targeting their first-ever T20 World Cup title after consistently reaching the knockout stages of ICC events.

The Black Caps reached the final after defeating South Africa in the semifinal and will rely on the firepower of Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and middle-order hitter Daryl Mitchell, alongside the pace threat of Lockie Ferguson.

Santner said his team is ready to handle the pressure of playing in front of a massive Indian crowd and aims to “silence the stadium” with a strong performance.

Historically, India hold the overall edge in T20 internationals with 16 wins to New Zealand’s 11 from 30 matches.

However, the Black Caps have dominated the two teams’ meetings in the T20 World Cup itself, winning all three previous encounters in the tournament (2007, 2016 and 2021).

The Ahmedabad pitch is expected to offer a balanced contest between bat and ball, though the large ground and even bounce could favor teams that build solid totals.

Historically, teams chasing have often enjoyed success in T20 finals, making the toss potentially crucial in determining strategy.

For India, victory would mean redemption on home soil and a historic title defense. For New Zealand, it represents a chance to finally convert years of consistency in ICC tournaments into a long-awaited T20 crown.
