India launches ‘Operation Alert’ along Meghalaya-Bangladesh border
The Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a high-alert security operation along the Bangladesh border in Meghalaya to ensure foolproof safety ahead of India’s Independence Day on August 15.
The operation, named ‘Operation Alert’, will run until August 16. It involves close coordination with the Meghalaya Police and other law enforcement agencies to maintain tight security in the sensitive border areas.
As part of the initiative, the BSF has deployed additional troops and intensified patrolling. Senior BSF officials from headquarters and sector offices are present on the ground to directly oversee the operation.
According to a BSF statement, the operation includes 24-hour border patrols, surprise inspections, and strengthened surveillance along land and waterways. Special focus is being placed on preventing cattle smuggling, illegal trafficking, and unauthorized border crossings.
With support from night vision devices and mobile patrol units, the BSF is maintaining continuous surveillance of vulnerable border zones.
Inspector General O.P. Upadhyay of the Shillong Frontier said the operation is aimed at protecting national security and thwarting any disruptive attempts during the Independence Day celebrations.
The BSF assures that strong security arrangements will remain in place across the Meghalaya border until the conclusion of the operation on August 16.
