India likely to tour Bangladesh in January instead of September

The Indian cricket team may tour Bangladesh in January next year. Uncertainty over the scheduled white-ball series in September has prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to look for a new window. This information emerged from a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source quoted by Indian news agency ANI.

According to the earlier schedule, the Indian team was supposed to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28. However, uncertainty has arisen over hosting the three ODIs and three T20Is in September.

A BCCI source told ANI that the India-Bangladesh series is likely to take place next January. Discussions are underway with the Indian government on the matter. Meanwhile, the BCB is looking for a suitable window early next year to host the series.

Earlier, India were scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025. The tour was later postponed to September 2026. In January this year, the BCB had announced that India would play three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram. However, the BCCI has yet to make any official announcement regarding the tour.

Regarding the series, BCB President Tamim Iqbal recently said that discussions were ongoing between the cricket boards of the two countries and that the dates could be adjusted.

The Indian cricket team last toured Bangladesh in 2022. After Bangladesh's political change, relations between the two countries became strained, and the scheduled Indian series was postponed due to security concerns.

Earlier this year, the relationship between the two cricket boards came under renewed scrutiny after Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman. Bangladesh also did not participate in the T20 World Cup held in India.

However, after the new government took office in Bangladesh in February, bilateral relations began to thaw. Based on discussions between the cricket boards of the two countries, the possibility of hosting the series in September had also emerged. Now, the possibility of holding it in January has come to the fore.
