India mission flags 'misleading' post over altered book cover
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has warned against the spread of what it described as misleading information, alleging that a news report was distorted by altering the original cover of a book presented as a gift from the high commissioner.
The warning was issued in a post on the mission's verified Facebook page on Thursday (August 20).
According to the post, a copy of Arthashastra was presented as a gift on behalf of the Indian high commissioner. The original cover of the book carries the message: "Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected everywhere."
The High Commission alleged that the original cover was replaced while circulating the book's image in an attempt to present a news report in a misleading manner.
It urged people to refrain from altering the original cover of a book to distort information or present an incident differently. The mission also requested that the original cover be kept intact when the book is shown or reported on.
The High Commission called on social media users to verify information before sharing it, stressing the importance of preventing misleading content from spreading online.
