India has strengthened its border security amid political uncertainty in Bangladesh by opening a new military camp in North Dinajpur of West Bengal, and establishing another army station in Dhubri of Assam.

On Thursday, Lieutenant General R C Tiwari, head of the Eastern Command, inspected the newly built camp in Chopra of North Dinajpur.

The facility will operate under the Brahmastra Corps, and Tiwari praised the troops’ professionalism and readiness, urging maximum vigilance to meet security challenges.

Tiwari also met local representatives, including Hamidul Rahman, emphasising civil-military cooperation for regional security and development.

Earlier, he laid the foundation for the Lachit Barphukan Military Station in Bamunigaon of Dhubri, named after the legendary Ahom general, noting that the station will enhance regional military capability and symbolise courage and leadership.

The Eastern Command stated that Tiwari also reviewed internal security measures and infrastructure development in the border areas.
