Following political unrest in neighboring countries and a recent car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, Indian authorities have heightened security at strategic sites, including the Siliguri corridor, or ‘Chicken’s Neck’.

The meeting was held at the central intelligence office in Siliguri under the ‘State Subsidiary Multi-Agency Center’ (SMAC) on Saturday (November 22), reports The Hindu.

Senior officials from the army, air force, BSF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, army intelligence, military police, railway police, RPF, as well as representatives from the National Highway Authority and Asian Highway Authority attended.

The meeting also decided to increase monitoring along borders, highways, rail lines, bridges, and other vulnerable locations, particularly at the India-Bangladesh and India-Nepal borders.

Additionally, information gathering on entrants and enhanced patrolling were emphasised.

Additional security measures include CISF deployment at Bagdogra airport, increased patrolling at major railway stations including New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar, and heightened vigilance on trains like Capital Express and Bandhan Bharat.

The meeting also highlighted stricter border monitoring ahead of Bangladesh’s national elections.
