Indian High Commission hosts ‘Shrabon Sandhya’ celebrating shared monsoon heritage
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka hosted a monsoon-themed musical evening, 'Shrabon Sandhya', at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), highlighting the shared cultural and literary heritage of Bangladesh and India through music inspired by the rainy season.
Held on Saturday (July 19), the programme celebrated the beauty of Shrabon, a month deeply rooted in Bengali and Indian literature, music and tradition.
The evening featured a curated selection of monsoon-themed performances reflecting the region's common cultural legacy and appreciation of nature.
Renowned Bangladeshi classical musician and music guru Anil Kumar Saha, along with his disciple Alok Kumar Sen, performed Hindustani classical music, while acclaimed Rabindra Sangeet artist, researcher and educator Dr Chanchal Khan presented a series of Tagore songs centred on the monsoon.
The performances included Bengali and Hindi compositions that captured the spirit of the rainy season and underscored the longstanding cultural ties between the two neighbouring countries.
In a statement, the Indian High Commission said the event was part of its ongoing cultural diplomacy initiatives aimed at strengthening people-to-people connections, expanding cultural exchanges, and deepening mutual understanding between Bangladesh and India.
